Reflections of College and Career Project

Now that we have finished our college and career project it's time to reflect on what we have discovered. This should be a lengthy post. You should expect to write at LEAST 4 to 5 well constructed paragraphs.

Examine the spreadsheet you created and discuss IN DETAIL the following:
  1. Which college offers what you would consider the best opportunity for you to get an education in the degree of your choice? Explain why you think this way.
  2. Discuss the cost of tuition for all three colleges. Is one college much more expensive than the others? Why? Does one college charge high fees for room and board as compared to the other college? Why do you think this is so?
  3. Which college are you most likely going to be able to attend? This may be because of GPA, cost, etc.
  4. Discuss the classes that you signed up for next year and how these classes will help you prepare for following your career path and college choice.
  5. Discuss in detail goals you will need to set and ACHIEVE in order to get into the college of your choice. Also discuss how you will achieve these goals.
  6. Discuss how you plan to pay for going to the college of your choice. Make sure you tell us what the total cost of your college education will be.
  7. After completing the research did you change your mind about your college or career choices? Why or why not?

  1. I think, to get the very best education I can get, I could either go to the University of Toledo or Central Michigan University. They seem fairly equal in terms of the quality of the education I would get. I don’t know University of Michigan as well as I do UT and CMU, but I don’t believe they have quite a good education program that the other schools have. Of the three tuitions, UT and U of M have roughly the same tuition, but CMU is almost $5,000 higher. This is because their tuition is higher, and their miscellaneous fees are higher. I’m not completely sure why this is, though, the only guess I have is that they might consider their program better than other schools’, and that would explain the high tuition, but I don’t know why their miscellaneous fees are high.
I am most likely going to attend UT, because the total cost seems a reasonable amount, and that it’s very close, only about a ½ hour away. I could live at home, eliminating about $9,750 worth of room and board cost. The other schools are farther away, with U of M nearer to 1 hour away, and CMU about 3 hours away, and it can even be a 5 hour drive in bad weather (as I experienced last Friday when I went up there).
My major, which is in Music Education, doesn’t have many classes in this school that are related to it. The only classes that are related are Symphonic Band and Jazz Band. Nothing else here really teaches music or music education.
I’m not sure what goal to set, other than to get a good GPA,that would shoot me into this college. The only others I can think of are to take honors and AP classes, and to do NHS. I’m not sure how I would pay for college. I would try to get a few scholarships, from UT and other places, but I’m not sure how else I would pay for it. It would cost $19,499.32 to go there if I stayed there, and $9,753.32 if I stayed home.
Finally, I haven’t really changed my choice on my college or major. I’ve always been thinking of going to UT, and I think it’s impossible to change my mind on a major when I wasn’t sure of one before. Aside from that, though, I’ve been thinking about becoming a teacher for a while, but only recently have I thought of becoming a music teacher.

The college that offers me the best opportunity for me to get the degree of my choice would be University of Maryland College Park. I choose this college because the degree I would want to pursue is in Criminology. I need this degree because I need to understand how a criminal mind works.
The cost of tuition for Hood College is 30,620. The cost of tuition for University of Baltimore is 7,330. The cost of tuition for University of Maryland College Park is 19,040. The highest cost of tuition is Hood College. I think this may be because of the cost of room and board is low. I tink this is so because the colleges need to make money.
University of Baltimore is probably the one I will have to go. I will probably go to this college because the GPA is at a good height. Also the cost is the lowest out of all the other colleges.
I choose classes surrounding how people think and act. Classes about why people do the things they do. I took classes about law, so I can understand the rules of our nation a little better for when im older.
The goals I have and will achieve would be getting good grades and taking classes that help me understand things for when I’m older. I will need to get into a good college that is recognized by the federal and state government and get a Bachelors Degree. I will need to get into Quantico, a school for training that is very hard to get into, so I can train and get stronger. And I will need to do this all before age 37.
I plan to pay for college through scholarship plans, job money, and my parents. I don’t know if my parents will be able to help me that much through this, but I know if I get a good job and start saving up early I can do this on my own. Also all the scholarship websites we signed up for will help me too.
No, I didn’t change my mind about anything. I have no idea what college I’m going to go to in the future, but I know the career I want to get into is right for me. I know if will be hard, but I know I can do it.

  3. The college that gives me the best opportunity for the degree of my choice would be University of Florida. The cost of Michigan State is the highest cost for tuition and University of Florida is only a little less than the cost of MSU. I think its because it is a better school. University of Pacific School has a high room and board fee compared to the rest of my colleges and I think that is because it is located in California.
The college that I would most likely be able to attend would be University of Florida or Pacific because they have a GPA of about 3.5 to get in and that's about what I have. I signed up for college biology next year and that will help me prepare for the career path of my choice. To get into the college of my choice I have to fill out an application and send it in and then write an essay on a topic that is given to me. Also I would have to have a GPA of 3.5.
I plan on paying for college by getting a minimum wadge job when I get old enough and then hope my parents pay for some of it. The total cost would be about $25,000.
No I did not change my mind because I already had my mind set on what I wanted to do.

  4. I think the University of Central Los Angeles would be the best opportunity for me to get an education in a degree in psychology. I believe this is the best opportunity because it is an advanced school that would challenge me, and it also has a highly recognized psychology program. Cost of tuition at UCLA is about $22,000, USC is about $40,000, and Stanford is about $40,000. Perhaps USC and Stanford have higher tuition rates because they are more renowned and prestigious schools. They all have around the same cost for room and board because they are all in the same state. The college I would most likely be able to attend is UCLA. This would most likely be the college I attend because it has a lower tuition than the other schools and it is the one that I think I would enjoy the most.
Next year I signed up for psychology and sociology which will help me prepare for a major in the psychology field. I also have signed up for Algebra 2 which is a math credit above the required for my grade so I will be able to take Statistics before I leave high school, which is a required class as a freshman in college majoring in psychology. I also am signed up for College Prep Biology which is an advanced science class that will help me better prepare for science classes in college.
The goals I have to achieve to get into the college of my choice include getting scholarships so that I will be able to afford it. I would also have to maintain a high GPA and continue to take advanced challenging classes. I would also have to continue with participating in extracurricular activities and events to have credentials that will look appealing on a college application. I will achieve these goals by pushing myself to the best of my abilities and always doing the best that I can.
The total cost to attend UCLA is about $36,000. I plan to apply for many scholarships to help me reduce the cost. My parents will also help me pay for a large cost of my college, and the rest I will probably have to pay for in student loans.
After completing this research I did not change my mind about the college I want to attend, it actually helped me realize that I was making a good choice and I needed to focus on things to help me achieve my goals.

I think San Diego State University offers the best path of education for me. First of all, its the cheapest of the three colleges. Also, it offers the best programs for the career path I want to pursue. Its also located in San Diego, and thats where I would like to live when Im older. The colleges located in Los Angeles ($39,623) and New York ($76,880) are more expensive than the one in San Diego. This is because both Los Angeles and New York have much higher room and board rates. Its more expensive to live in a big city like Los Angeles and New York. Plus, transportation would cost more.
I think that San Diego State University would be the best college for me because of the most realistic price. I meet all of the requirements to attend this college and its the cheapest. It also offers the best programs for psychology which is the path Im thinking about pursuing a career in. To help me reach this goal, Im signed up for psychology 2, advanced math, and advanced science. These classes will help with psychology in college. I also am taking sociology which is studying how groups of people behave. This will also be a helpful course to take if Im going into the psychology pathway. If I want to attend San Diego State University, I will need to maintain about a 3.5 GPA which I plan on doing. I need to make sure I take all of the science and psychology classes offered in my school. If I do these things, I think I will be prepared to attend this college.
To pay for San Diego State Universitys tuition, I plan on getting a job when Im 16. I will put a part of my paycheck into my college savings every week. Also, my parents and grandparents have been saving money since I was born. Between all of our savings, I will pay for college. The total cost to attend is $26,017. After all the research, I did change my mind about my college and career choices. I at first wanted to attend Julliard, but I found that it doesnt offer what I want. It doesnt have the best programs for me and the price is very high. Also, when I first started to research, I wanted to be a Website designer. After researching, I found that job would not suit me well. Psychology has also interested me, so I want to pursue that career instead.

I think that the University of Michigan offers me the best opportunity to get an education in mental health nursing because they have a very well known nursing program. I know I would get an excellent education because the school is prestigious. Compared to the University of Toledo, the University of Michigan costs much more. Michigan State University is not much farther behind the University of Michigan but it still costs more than the University of Toledo. The room and board at UT is much lower than the other two colleges, because if I attended UT, I would just live at home for a few years. The room and board for MSU and U of M are high, but they also include a meal plan.
I am most likely going to attend the University of Toledo for a variety of different reasons. First of all, it would be much cheaper for me to attend there because I would still be able to pay in-state tuition. I wouldn’t be living on campus for the first couple years, which saves me a LOT of money in room and boarding. They have a great nursing program, which my sister is now involved in. Another reason that I am considering here is because of my family’s history. My dad attended the University of Toledo and my sister currently is also. My transportation costs would be higher for the trip there and back, but in the long run I think it’s worth it. Besides, you only need a 3.0 to get in. If I go to UT, I know my parents will help me out with costs.
Next year, I signed up for psychology 2 and this year I am taking psychology 1. I think that these classes will help me because since I want o be a psychiatric nurse, I need to learn more about the human brain and how it functions. This class will also tell me what can go wrong with the human brain, which directly applies to my field. I’m also taking sociology, which helps me learn about social behaviors. In order to achieve my goal of becoming a psychiatric nurse, I need to set other short term goals. One goal is to do well in all of my high school classes, especially sciences and mathematics. Another is to keep my GPA in the 3.5-4.0 range, just to keep my options open. Finally, I could volunteer at community health centers.
To pay for the cost of my college, I’m going to need a plan. The first step is to apply for as many college scholarships as I can and work hard to earn those scholarships. Unless it is needed, I don’t plan on applying for financial aid. My parents and I have talked about it and they are going to help me pay for a lot of my college, since I most likely am going to stay at home for a while. This will take away the cost of room and board. Finally, I am going to get a job and work part-time to help pay my parents back.
After completing the research, I have decided that I want to stick with my college choices and career choices. All of the colleges are reasonable for me to get into, as long as I keep my grades as high as possible. They all cost in-state tuition, which keeps costs down. My career still seems interesting and all of the colleges that I looked at have good nursing programs. The major that I want to choose and the colleges I picked go perfectly together. I hope everything works out in the long run!

  7. I believe that Western Kentucky University offers me the best education because I would be able to go into all of the classes I need like psychology and medical. The college also has the option to study abroad and that would be a really great learning experience. University of West Florida is around $10,000 more dollars than Florida University and Western Kentucky University. The tuition for the University of West Florida is a lot more and that’s why the price is higher. The cost of room and board is also $3,000 more at University of West Florida.
I will most likely attend Western Kentucky University. I like WKU more than the other colleges because my family lives in Kentucky so I would be able to live with them instead of paying for room and board. Also, the GPA is only a 2.0 which would be easy to get. At WKU you can study abroad and I believe that would be a great opportunity. There are over 300 clubs at WKU like foreign language and dance and that would make college life more fun.
I signed up for advance science classes. Since I have to learn medical because of medicine for being a psychiatrist I will need to know a lot about science. I have been applying myself and now have more advance and challenging classes in science next year. I have also signed up for German because another language is very common at WKU and that would help me fit in better and give me more opportunities. I also signed up for all of the psychology classes because that will be my major to become a psychiatrist.
To get into Western Kentucky University I will need to have at least three years of a foreign language, so if I take one every year until graduation I will be able to have that. I will also need a 2.0 GPA which is easy to get but I will have to study and maybe get a tutor in some classes. I will also have to be in one sport because WKU looks into sports and extra clubs. If I help in the community, which there are programs to do, and my Aunt and Uncle do some, WKU will give me big scholarships.
To go to Kentucky University I will need $29,000 and that is if I do room and board. I will have to get a lot of scholarships and have to start now so that they will accumulate. Also, my parents have some money saved for me to go to college. I will have to take out bank loans and slowly pay them off once I graduate. With all of these I might be able to pay for college with only a little help from my parents. After all of the research I only want to go to Western Kentucky University even more and I think that if I try hard I can actually go.

I feel like Harding University would be the best opportunity to get an education in accounting. I feel this because it is a smaller school. For this reason they probably would have smaller classes and that works better for me. I also think it would be really great to have support through religion while staying away from home on my own. Tuition for one year at Harding is about $14,160, University of Michigan is around $12,634, and Ferris State University is $10,440. They are all around the same prices. I think Harding is a little more expensive because it is a private school and the others are charging me the in-state price. University of Michigan has the highest cost for room and board at about $10,258. I think they would have the highest rate because it has the largest population and a lot of students compete for their spaces on campus. The college I’m most likely to attend is Harding University because it is the college I’m most interested in, they are able to give more scholarships than the other schools, and I wanted to go to a Christian University. I am taking a business management and accounting classes next year. This is the field I would like to enter into so I think that they were a good choice. I will also still be taking a weekly bible study class that will help me in college also. In order to achieve my goal of attending Harding University I will need to keep my GPA up in the A range, stay stable with my faith, and find as many scholarships as I can. I can do this by studying hard, going to worship every week, and by surfing the web and talking to my classmates. My parents will be paying for my college education, but $23,887 is a lot of money. I will also try to earn as many scholarships as possible and take out a few student loans. Along with that I will try to save money on my own by getting a job soon. I didn’t change my mind about my career choice because I believed that I could do anything if I worked hard before this project. Now because I have researched I know what I need to do in order to achieve this goal and I am prepared for what is going to happen in the near future.

The college that offers me the best opportunity for me to get an education in the degree of Broadcast Journalism is Washington State University. They have an excellent Broadcasting program and it is taught by the voice of the Washington State Cougars. He does a very fine job with it and has gotten excellent reviews.
The tuition cost for Washington State University is $36,216. The tuition cost for Adrian College is $35,786. The tuition cost for Bemidji State University is $15,312. Washington State University and Adrian College are more than twice the amount for tuition as Bemidji State University. I think this is because Bemidji is a smaller college, and is not as well known. Or it might have less majors and degrees that you can get there. Washington State’s room and board cost is much higher than Adrian College and Bemidji State’s room and board cost. Washington State’s is $9,662, Adrian College’s is $4,026, and Bemidji State’s is $3,338. This might be because maybe Washington State University has much nicer dorms then Adrian College or Bemidji State.
I will most likely attend Washington State University. I would really like to live on the West coast of the United States for a change. The tuition is very expensive, but if I keep working hard in school, then I will most likely be able to apply and get many scholarships. If I get scholarships, that will help with the cost and then all I will have to worry about is really loving where I am going to school and loving what I am going to school for.
For my career choice, I will need to take a lot of English classes, and I signed up for Honors English 10 next year. Also, I will need to know how to speak Spanish just in case there are people that speak Spanish at the news station and I need to communicate with them, and I signed up for Spanish 2 next year.
To get into the college of my choice, Washington State University, one of my goals is to maintain a 4.0 GPA all throughout high school. If I do that, I will definitely be able to get scholarships to Washington State. I will achieve that goal by always working hard at school and at my school work, and always doing my homework and getting my assignments in on time.
I plan to pay to go to Washington State University by getting scholarships. If I don’t get enough scholarships to pay for my full college, I will probably take loans from the bank and ask my parents to help me pay for it. The total cost of my college education will probably be around $198,808 for all four years.
After completing this research, I did not change my mind about career choices because I know that I want to be a news broadcaster and I know I want to go to school on the West coast.

The college that I think would give the best opportunity to get the education degree of my choice is Michigan State University. I think that this college gives me the best opportunity because it has the classes that you are required to take, it is in state, and the cost is reasonable. I am most likely going to attend MSU because of the cost, where it is located, and I am going to maintain the GPA needed to be admitted to this college. I also feel that it will give me a better education because of the classes they offer and the quality of the professors.
The total cost for Michigan State University is $21,026. It is made up of the tuition that is $12,822, room and board is $2,735, the meal plan is $2,735, the cost to apply is $50, and the miscellaneous fees are $2,735. The total cost for Oakland University is $20,968. It is made up of the tuition which is $9,280, room and board is $7,986, the meal plan is $1,362, and the miscellaneous fees are $2,340. The total cost for University of Toledo is $16,135. It is made up of the tuition which costs $6,816, the cost of room and board $5,534, the meal plan is $1,740, the cost to apply is $40, and the miscellaneous fees are $2,450.
The classes that I signed up for next year are sociology, kinesiology, and psychology 2. Sociology will help me because it is all about the psychology behind different cultures and societies. Kinesiology will help me because it has to do with how the brain works with the rest of your body. Psychology 2 will help me because it is one of the required classes that I will have to take. The goals that I will need to set and achieve are to maintain a 3.9 GPA, and to stay in honors classes. The way that I will achieve these goals are by making sure that I keep up on my school work.
I plan on paying for college by using as many scholarships as possible. I will also use the money that I have saved up over the years. The total cost of my college education will be $126,156. After completing this research I found that I wanted to go to MSU. Before this I didn’t know where I wanted to go but this project has helped me to decide

  11. I think that the best college for me would be Michigan State University because they have a lot of different classes that I would take to help me become a therapist and they also have other choices so I can change the type of therapist that I would want to be. Out of all the colleges that I did Michigan State is the most expensive. The cost for the tuition, room and board and the meal plan and the cost to apply are all more than the other colleges. I think that they charge more because it is a popular school and they have a big campus and a lot of different majors. I don’t know if I would be able to get in because the GPA is pretty high and the other colleges have lower GPA’s so it would be easy for me to get into. I think that the classes that I signed up for next year that would help me would be math and English. I would have to work really hard in school and I would have to get really good grades. I would do this by working harder in my classes. The cost for the school I would want to go to would be 4, 2802. I plan to get scholarships to help pay for college. I haven’t changed my mind I still want to go to Michigan State to become a marriage and family therapist.

  12. Since we have finished the career project I have had a lot to think about. Like what college offers the best opportunity for me to get the degree I want, which I’m going to most likely attend, and what classes I need to take to pursue my career choice.
The college that offers the best opportunity for me would be The University of Michigan. They offer both a bachelor’s degree in pre-law and business. I would get the choice of how I would like to get my graduating degree. I could either take the direct way for law or go the business direction for the corporate side. They also offer a graduate law school I can attend right after I get my bachelor’s. Once I’m done, I would be able to go straight into their law school and continue to pursue my career plan as a corporate lawyer.
The college I’m most likely to attend would also be the University of Michigan. I would most likely be able to attend here because of cost, my GPA and other things, and closeness. The University of Michigan is quite a bit less expensive than my other two college choices of Dartmouth and Harvard. The University of Michigan only costs about $38,000 with the fees for room and board compared to the $57,000 of the other two, which also include everything. I would pay for this through scholarships and my parents said they would help. I’ve also saved up a little bit of money to help.
This college also offers me a good chance to get in. I would have to have straight A’s and take honors and AP classes. I am already doing this and don’t plan on stopping before I leave for college. They also only take you if you graduated in the top 15% of your class, which I currently am. Though, to get in you have to fill requirements of at least two years of the same foreign language, but four is recommended. I would also need to take more classes like This college would also be closer, which my mother wants, and seeing that she’s my mother; I have to take that into consideration. To get into my choice college, I will have to take many honors and AP classes. I will also have to have a near perfect GPA and graduate in the top 10% of my class.

  13. The college that offers me the best opportunity to get an education in my preferred degree is probably Harvard. While The University of Michigan and Yale have decent computer science programs, Harvard’s really stands out to me. It seems like a place where I can grow and learn to my full potential. Out of the three schools I’ve chosen, Harvard has the newest technology, excellent learning centers – the classes are relatively small, with a 5:1 student/faculty ratio on average – and they give their students flexibility with their schedules.
While The University of Michigan only costs about $28,400 to attend for an entire school year, Harvard and Yale are naturally much more expensive, seeing as they’re two of the best Ivy League schools. Yale is the most expensive of them at $61,125 for a school year. Harvard is slightly cheaper at around $56,800 annually. While Yale is much more costly for tuition, meal plans, miscellaneous fees, etc, Harvard has the most expensive room and board price, for an average of $13,988 for housing. I’ve looked into all three of these school’s websites, and it seems that Harvard has the best on-campus housing for students, ensuring that they get their money’s worth. However, The University of Michigan has the cheapest costs, so it is more financially realistic for me to attend there.
According to Zinch.com, Harvard admits an average of 7.2% students annually and the average GPA of an incoming freshman is 3.65. All of these students were in the top 25% of their high school class. Yale is similar, with an average of 7.35% students admitted annually. 97% of these students were in the top 10% of their high school class. Michigan, however, is much more lax and easier to get into with around 50% of their applicants being admitted annually. These students have an average GPA of 3.75 and 1% of these students were in the top 50% of their high school class. Based on this information, it will be a lot more likely for me to be admitted into The University of Michigan.
The only classes I’ve signed up for next year that can possibly help me with my intended career path are Honors Algebra II, Web Page Design I, and possibly Biology. I plan on taking even more classes related to this career path during my Junior and Senior years.
A good portion of the money I will be using to pay for the total cost of my college will be from my college savings account, though I do plan on getting multiple different scholarships and possibly even student loans. The cost of all of these college funds can range anywhere from $30,000 to $70,000, depending on the school I go to.
After completing my research, I’ve decided that I do not want to go to Yale. I was never really interested in the school in the first place, but my research has proven that I definitely do not want to go to this school. While it does have the right program I need for my career, I don’t think it is strong enough and I think I can excel more at a different college.

  14. I chose the colleges the University of Michigan, Michigan State University and Ohio State University to research. Each college was different in costs, which really helped me decide which college might be best for me. I was set on University of Michigan, but I know that it is a difficult school to get into. U of M has the best opportunity for me to get the education in the degree of my choice. It has a great medical program and good professors. This is reflected in its tuition. The cost of one year is $ 25,268.00, tuition alone. Ohio and Michigan State are still great schools but Michigan State doesn’t have the great medical school and Ohio is way too expensive.
Ohio State’s tuition is $ 24,759.00 for one year of schooling. Not including room and board and miscellaneous costs. Then room and board is an extra $10,000 because it is out of state. I wasn’t all that interested in Ohio anyway. MSU’s cost for tuition is $21,000 for one year, cheaper than the other two and easier to get into. It is also in state making it so much easier to visit my family and have a lower tuition cost; making MSU the easiest school for me to get into. Their targeted ACT scores are lower than OSU and U of M. The costs are easier, and the requirements are easier.
I did not choose to take any health classes for next year because they’re not available to sophomores. This year, I took Health as a requirement. I am taking Psychology 1 this year and Psychology 2 next year. They might help because it involves the brain and learning things about it would help in my preferred field which is neurology. Any health classes would help in my case because learning as much about health as I can before I go to college is smart.
Goals I would need to set in order to get into the college of my choice are: 1) keep my GPA up above a 3.5 by studying hard and putting good effort into school 2) get above a 20 on my ACT 3) make sure I stay on track towards the school I would like to attend. I could achieve the goals by following exactly what I have been doing. Studying hard, doing my homework, putting in effort into school. And towards the end, I should try even harder than I am now.
I know right now that my parents are going to pay for my college. The total cost for one year is $29,230.00.

Out of all the colleges that I have researched I definitely think that the University of Southern California offers the best educational opportunity. I feel this because the University of Southern California has one of the best cinematic arts programs in the country, and many famous actors and directors have graduated from there. The cost of out-of-state tuition at USC is $42,818. The cost out-of-state tuition at the University of Cincinnati is 24,942. And finally the cost of out-of-state tuition at the University Of Central Michigan is 22,092. The University of Southern California charges a lot higher out-of-state tuition because the school is located in such a nice area, and they provide a very excellent education. And they have a nice campus. The room and board at the University of Southern California is $12,078. This fee is by far the highest out of all the schools that I researched because they include the meal plan with the room and board, they provide excellent dorms for the students to stay in, and they have a lot of students competing to get rooms on campus. The college that I am most likely to attend is probably Central Michigan University. This is so because the college is located in state, they provide an excellent art program, they have reasonable costs, and they have a lot of scholarships for me. The classes that I signed up for next year that will help me prepare for following my career path are introduction to wheel throwing, basic drawing, basic painting, and advanced hand building. Goals I will need to achieve in order to go to Central Michigan University include keeping my GPA around a 3.9, participating in as many art classes that help me in my career, and getting as many scholarships as possible. I can achieve my goals by keeping up with my school work and studying hard, sign up for as many helpful art classes as possible, and searching for scholarships online that I can sign up for. The overall costs annually at the University of Central Michigan are 32,461. My college education costs will be paid by my parents, myself, scholarships, and student loans. Overall, I did change my mind on what college I want to go to. I learned that some colleges are just out of my price range and some may just not provide the type of education that I need.
